Meanings of a folded U.S. flag

The first fold of the American flag is a symbol of life.
The second fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life.
The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks, and who gave a portion of his or her life for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world.
The fourth fold is a symbol of our weaker nature, as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace, as well as in times of war, for His divine guidance.
The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, the United States of America. For in the words for Stephen Decatur, "Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right, but it is still our country, right or wrong."
The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
The seventh fold is a tribute to our armed forces, for it is through the armed forces that we protect our country and our flag against all enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.
The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor our mother, for whom it flies on Mother's Day.
The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood, for it has been through their faith, love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great have been molded.
The 10th fold is a tribute to father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since he or she was first born.
The 11th fold, in the eyes of Hebrew citizens, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
The 12th fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Ghost.

When the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, "In God We Trust."

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it has the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington and the sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones and were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the U.S. Armed Forces, preserving for us the rights, privileges and freedoms we enjoy today.

    FAQs

When are flags flown at Pearl Harbor National Memorial?

Flags are flown ceremonially three times a year: December 7 (anniversary of attack on Pearl Harbor), Memorial Day and Independence Day. You can also have your flag flown on a specific date as long as you place your order 7 days in advance. The only days we don't fly flags are Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day as Pearl Harbor National Memorial is closed.

Can I personalize my Pearl Harbor Certificate of Flag Presentation?

Yes. When placing your order, please input the name or names you'd like on your certificate. We recommend one line with 45 letters max. We also recommend writing "John Smith" instead of "JOHN SMITH".

    Polymax or Nylon?

The polymax flag is a thicker, heavier material that is similar to cotton. Most people cannot tell the difference. The nylon flag is thin and soft to the touch and does much better for flags being flown outside. Nylon flags are also generally easier to fold.

We loved your product. We purchased for our son in law because he has been stationed at Pearl Harbor naval base and thought he would enjoy it. He was so touched he decided to frame it.

    Great gift

I requested a flag to be flown on my wife’s birthday, which is in December and I received the flag in time for Christmas. It brought tears to her eyes, she loves it. It is now in a flag display case on the bookshelf in our living room for everyone to see.

would be nice if the certificate could be sandwiched between a couple of pieces of sturdy cardboard so there is less opportunity for the post office to mangle it.

    To Honor and Remember

We ordered this flag as part of our program to Honor and Remember our Fallen Navy, Marines and Coast Guards members. The Flag will be placed in weatherproof case and then displayed on the replica USS Arizona one of our now deceased members built to honor his fellow Navy Brothers who perished that fateful day. The Replica USS Arizona float is pulled in all our local parades to help remind the public of the service and sacrifices made for them.

    U.S.S. ARIZONA FLAGS

Excellent and very prestigious to own flags. I give these flags to Battle Fatigue d Veterans as a mission to carry on the Legacy of the crew of the Arizona that passed away during the attack on Pearl Harbor. These flags give inspiration to help others and have proven to reduce the thoughts of suicide and save lives. www.sgtshredderrthv.org
