This reproduction of the USS Arizona BB39 launch medal was given to official guests attending her launching ceremony on June 19, 1915, Brooklyn Navy Yard, New York.
The ship was named after the newest state in the Union by Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels.
The front of the medal is stamped “Arizona” in Greek design and the back bears the inscription “U.S.S. Arizona launched June 19, 1915.” According to a contemporary newspaper article the original medal was made from metal from parts of guns from the old battleship U.S.S. Maine.
