The Enola Gay: The B-29 That Dropped the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima

$22.95
by Norman Polmar
The world entered the atomic age in August 1945, when the B-29 Superfortress named Enola Gay flew some 1,500 miles from the island of Tinian and dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan.
In this unique book, award-winning historian and author Norman Polmar tells the story of the Enola Gay, the Boeing B-29 program, and the combat operations of the B-29 type. After nearly two decades of restoration, the Enola Gay has become one of the highlights of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center at the Washington Dulles International Airport.
The Enola Gay is the complete account of the aircraft - from concept to artifact - whose controversial mission changed the course of world history.
Soft cover. 89 pages. Includes black and white archive photographs. Printed in the USA.
During the early 80s, my brother and I spent one week “volunteering” (doing maintenance work at the Protestant church) in Kalaupapa. We had no idea at that time that this would prove to be one of life’s most meaningful experiences, providing us with so much more than we could possibly return. I happened upon this beautiful book by searching for the obituary of a resident who became a friend, and discovered he was featured here. In addition to being an accurate portrayal of a controversial history, this book contains personal accounts of the lives of many residents (some of whom we were privileged to meet and spend time) shared through thoughtful interviews and stunning photographs. Words cannot adequately express my humble gratitude for this important work. Mahalo to the authors for shining a brilliant beam of light on the resilient and incredibly generous people of Kalaupapa.
We saw the puzzle in the store at Pearl Harbor, but didn't want to have to keep up with it or try to fit it in our suitcases, so we ordered it online. It beat us home! Can't wait to put it together.
This is our second purchase, it was raised over the USS Arizona in honor of a family member that served in WWII. It will fly over the farmstead where he raised his family.
