By Jon Stroud

An account of one man's journey from small town Kentucky to the far corners of the globe.

The James Earl Smith Story is an authorized biography, written about one man's life, most of it lived during some of the most difficult times America has gone through.

The book is based on the memories of this 90 year old man, from his earliest childhood to his final days. It encompasses his time growing up in Kentucky during the Great Depression with his four siblings and parents, his eye-witness account of the attack on Pearl Harbor, World War II, and detailed information about his two older brothers, who also witnessed intense combat in the war.

Jon Stroud, the author, grew up in a small Southern Indiana town, close to his maternal grandfather, James Earl Smith. Even at a young age, Jon knew his grandfather was a special man, but it was not until years later that he realized what an interesting life Earl had lived. It was then Jon decided to sit down with his grandfather and walk with him through his life. This book is a result of their time spent together.
