December 7, 1941 - TOMIKAZU “TOMI” NAKAJI (Kyler Ki Sakamoto) and his best friend BILLY DAVIS (Kalama Epstein) are playing baseball in a field near their homes in Hawaii when Japan launches a surprise attack on the US at Pearl Harbor. As Tomi looks up at the sky and recognizes the Blood-Red Sun emblem on the fighter planes, he knows that his life has changed forever.
Torn between his love of all things American and the traditional ways of his parents and GRAMPA (Dann Seki), Tomi feels frightened and ashamed of his native land. Tomi’s friendship with Billy is soon tested as prejudice divides their island community. He must find the courage to stand up to neighborhood bully, KEET WILSON (Bryce Moore), while protecting his family’s honor and its katana, a centuries-old samurai sword.
He is soon forced to become the man of the family to care for his MAMA (Autumn Ogawa) and sister, KIMI (Mina Kohara), after his PAPA (Chris Tashima) is arrested and taken away to an internment camp.
Based on actual events, Under the Blood-Red Sun is an unforgettable story of friendship, courage & survival.
When my wife and I visited Hawaii in August 2014 I bought one of these shirts while I was over there but have only worn it on rare occasions because I thought I would not be able to get the same T-shirt again. Having gone online and found they are still available I bought another one and now wear my original one every week. They fit perfectly, are made of great quality material, good price and the graphics look stunning and I have since bought a cap to match.
Wearing it now as I write this. Purchased one in January this year when I visited Pearl Harbor and subsequently left it behind at a restaurant and never found it.Be more careful now
I purchased this same mug when my wife & I visited Pearl Harbor in May of this year, and I was so impressed with the quality and graphics that I bought another one for a friend.
It's a great book. I had the book years ago. Everyone should get the book who is interested about the USS Enterprise CV 6 And her Air group beginning of World War Two.
I bought this book for my staff to celebrate Nurses Day! What an honor to share this book with them, a first-hand account of the sacrifices and challenges that helped mold our profession. As active-duty uniformed service nurses, we must always remember that although these individuals may not have fought the war with a weapon, they fought with their hearts and souls to ensure that the soldiers and all involved were cared for and loved.
