The photo on this keychain was taken in Times Square, New York by U.S. Navy photo journalist Lt. Victor Jorgensen on August 14, 1945, the day World War II ended.

This date has come to be known as Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day, also known as Victory in the Pacific or V-P Day). The photograph portrays an American sailor kissing a nurse during the celebration that followed President Truman's announcement of Japan's surrender. Jorgensen titled his photograph Kissing the War Goodbye.
